BEDMINSTER, NJ — Cleanup of a fuel spill and an overturned tractor-trailer that was on fire on Interstate 78 continues to cause issues into the evening commute in Somerset County.
All westbound lanes remain closed as of 5:20 p.m. at milepost 26.8 near exit 26 - County Route 665/Rattlesnake Bridge Road in Bedminster Township.
Major delays of up to two and a half hours are being reported, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation's 511NJ website.
Delays are also being reported on I-78, I-287, Route 22, and Route 202 in Somerset County.
I-78 West at Exit 26: All westbound lanes at exit 26 are closed and detoured with a 20 to 25 minute delay.
I-78 West: Traffic Congestion on I-78 westbound West of Exit 33 - CR 525/Liberty Corner Rd/Martinsville in Bernards Township to West of Exit 26 - CR 665/Rattlesnake Bridge Rd in Bedminster with a current travel time of 135 to 140 minutes.
Route 22: Delays on Route 22 westbound East of County Route 643/Mountain Avenue in Bridgewater Township to West of County Route 637/Readington R oad in Branchburg Township are being reported. There is a current travel time of 20 to 25 minutes.
I-287 North: Delays and Heavy traffic on I-287 inner roadway northbound South of Route 202 in Bridgewater Township to Exit 21 - I-78 for Bedminster Township with a 25 to 30 minute delay.
I-287 Express Lanes: Delays on I-287 Express Lanes northbound North of Route 206 in Bridgewater to I-287 at North of Exit 21 - I-78 in Bedminster with a current travel time of 5 to 10 minutes.
The crash was reported at 11:39 a.m. on Jan. 10 at milepost 26.8 near exit 26 - County Route 665/Rattlesnake Bridge Road in Bedminster Township, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez.
A tractor-trailer overturned and became fully engulfed. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital, said Goez.
Drivers should avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
