FORT SCOTT, Kan. — The FSFD battled two structure fires this week in their city. The latter was Friday evening, February 17, 2023, as they were alerted to a house fire on the west side of town.

"First arriving unit established command and advised incoming units that they had a fully involved structure fire and would be making a defensive attack."

A defensive attack strategy would include not entering a burning structure. To also maintain the fire parameters, not allowing it to grow.

"At this time our main priority was conservation and not allowing the fire to spread to adjacent houses," FSFD state in a release. However due to the growing intensity they began attacking the fire with deck guns and hand lines.

"Tower 1 arrived on scene and we were able to get an aerial assault on the 2-story fire and knock it down."

Additionally this week the Fort Scott Police Dept released information regarding a string of vandalism and property damage reports. It is unknown if this fire is related to those crimes.

The fire is currently under investigation by FSFD's investigation unit.

"Thank you to FSPD, BBSO, Bourbon County EMS for assistance on this fire," Fort Scott Fire state.
