FRAMINGHAM Authorities say a man appeared to have committed suicide on Wednesday when he ran in front of a tractor-trailer on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The Massachusetts State Police said the man has been "tentatively" identified as being from Boston.

According to police, a tractor-trailer driven by a 65-year-old Hartford, Connecticut, man was heading east at 10:50 a.m. on the Mass Pike near Exit 111 in Framingham.

Police say a vehicle was stopped in the breakdown lane, with its operator outside of it.

"The victim then suddenly ran toward the oncoming truck and was struck," state police said in a release.

The driver of the tractor-trailer stopped and called 911. Traffic was backed up as the two left lanes were closed for more than three and a half hours as troopers investigated.
